Victor Davis Hanson: Why Canada's Prime Minister Is Courting Disaster

Description

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney raises the prospect of preparing for a possible U.S. invasion as trade tensions between Canada and the United States continue to escalate. The strain in the relationship comes as Canada faces broader economic pressures, questions over immigration and open-border policies, and growing concern over the long-term consequences of severing ties with its largest trading partner. Across Western institutions, similar ideological battles are playing out in higher education and the cultural establishment. Stanford faces backlash over the use of AI to alter students’ races in promotional materials, while academic fraud controversies at Cambridge raise further questions about standards and credibility in elite universities. The National Book Awards and the growing influence of DEI politics in major cultural institutions come under scrutiny, along with the treatment of left-wing historians and public figures in the media. The conversation closes with the midterms, where both parties currently stand, and what the coming election season could look like.
