What it’s like to wait for someone never coming home: Nicole Morris Pt. 1

Description

Every single day, around 130 Australians on average are reported missing. For the families left behind, there are no funerals, no closure, and no answers, just an unbearable silence where a person used to be. Nicole Morris has spent over two decades refusing to let that silence win. As the founder and director of the Australian Missing Persons Register, Nicole has supported countless families through the devastating trauma of unexplained disappearance. For more than two decades, she has earned the trust of law enforcement agencies and government bodies across Australia and internationally through her relentless commitment to ensuring the missing are never forgotten. In this episode of I Catch Killers, Gary and Nicole break down the human cost of disappearance, what it truly means to live with an "ambiguous loss", and share the stories of families whose lives have been irrevocably changed by unanswered questions. Gary and Nicole also take a hard look at the system. Why does the first response to a missing persons report matter so much? What goes wrong when cases aren't treated with urgency? And why does the dangerous myth that you must wait 24 hours before reporting someone missing continue to cost precious time?
