The best confession police had ever heard: Caroline Clarke Pt. 2

Description

Less than 10% of reported sexual assaults result in a conviction in Australia. So, what does it actually take to bring a rapist to justice? In part 2 of former police officer and survivor Caroline Clarke’s chat with Gary Jubelin, we find out exactly that. In this episode, Caroline details the aftermath of being sexually assaulted by a massage therapist - from the agonising decision to report, to becoming an active force in her case recording a confession that police called "the best they’d ever heard". Caroline also unpacks one of the most misunderstood reactions in trauma - the freeze response, a survival mechanism hardwired into all of us. Yet it still continues to be used against survivors in courtrooms, in conversations, and in their own heads. Caroline breaks down why it happens, how it works, and why the shame so many survivors carry about it is not only unfair, it's wrong. Subscribe to our new Youtube channel.
