The Quetta Conspiracy: Pakistan's First Coup Plot

Description

In the chaotic months following independence, Pakistan’s fledgling government faced threats from every direction. While we have covered military coups and political assassinations before, this episode turns to a quieter, more sinister chapter: the 1947 Quetta Conspiracy. We explore how Major General Akbar Khan, a decorated World War II veteran, attempted to overthrow the state by assassinating key leaders in Karachi and hijacking air force assets in Quetta. This narrative delves into the deep-seated distrust between the civil bureaucracy and the military elite, examining how fears of Indian infiltration and internal subversion fueled a plot that never fully materialized but left lasting scars on Pakistan’s democratic infancy. Through the lens of this failed insurrection, we uncover the fragile nature of the early state and the complex loyalties that defined its first year. #QuettaConspiracy #AkbarKhan #PakistanIndependence #1947History #MilitaryCoups #SouthAsiaHistory #LiaquatAliKhan #IskanderMirza #CICPakistan #KarachiPolitics #FirstYugoslavPlot #PostColonialStates #PakistaniMilitary #CivilianGovernment #ColdWarOrigins #HistoricalConspiracies #FexingoHistory #History Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
