The Karachi Agreement of 1949: Kashmir's Quiet Turning Point

Description

In this episode, Lucas and Luna look beyond the battles and ceasefire lines to a document that shaped the unresolved conflict over Kashmir: the Karachi Agreement of July 1949. It was signed by Pakistan and India under the UN flag, and it set rules for a future plebiscite that never came. They trace how the ceasefire line was drawn on maps, how local commanders negotiated terrain village by village, and why the agreement's promise of a free vote remained unfulfilled. Along the way they touch on the UN Commission for India and Pakistan, the role of General McNaughton, Sheikh Abdullah's government in Srinagar, and the quiet ways this agreement shaped later thinking about the Line of Control. This episode is a close look at a forgotten diplomatic moment that still echoes in South Asian geopolitics. #KarachiAgreement #Kashmir #UNMOGIP #McNaughton #SheikhAbdullah #CeasefireLine #Plebiscite #IndiaPakistan #1949 #UN #LineOfControl #Diplomacy #SouthAsia #Partition #History #FexingoHistory #ConflictResolution #PostColonial Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
