Level 3 Ironclad - Fortified Wines of the World

Description

This episode introduces the structural logic of fortified wines.Section 5 is not about memorizing style names. It is about controlling three variables under exam pressure: timing of fortification, residual sugar at arrest, and the ageing environment that follows. As you listen, focus on decision points. When fermentation is stopped determines sugar and alcohol balance.Extraction timing determines structure and color, particularly in Port.Oxygen exposure — biological, oxidative, or protected — determines flavour development and longevity.Ageing vessel and duration determine market positioning and price hierarchy.Sherry trains system-based reasoning through solera and flor.Port trains rapid extraction logic and commercial classification.Fortified Muscats train aromatic preservation versus oxidative transformation. If you can consistently explain fortified styles through cause → interruption → ageing → outcome, you are operating at distinction level. This section sits within the full Level 3 Ironclad Series - a paired Articles + Podcasts pathway built around the WSET syllabus.Explore the complete library here This is a public episode.
