Level 3 Ironclad - Chapter 16: Beaujolais

Description

This episode covers Chapter 16: Beaujolais, and focuses on the dominance of Gamay, the role of granite soils in limiting vigor and increasing concentration, and the stylistic impact of carbonic and semi-carbonic maceration.Pay particular attention to the appellation hierarchy: Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, and the ten crus. You should be able to explain how site (alluvial plains versus granite hillsides) and winemaking choices influence fruit profile, tannin structure, and ageing potential. For exam preparation, ensure you can link carbonic maceration to light body, low tannin and kirsch/banana notes, and distinguish lighter crus such as Brouilly and Fleurie from more structured, ageworthy examples like Morgon and Moulin-à-Vent using clear cause-and-effect reasoning. This Beaujolais episode is open access so you can experience how regional explanation works at Level 3.
