As the US-Israel led war on Iran entered its 100th day, tensions across the region escalated sharply. Following Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, Israel and Iran exchanged direct fire for the first time since April. For a moment, it appeared that Netanyahu’s aggressive military campaign in Lebanon could pull much of the Middle East into a wider regional war. However, a day later, both Iran and Israel announced they would halt attacks against each other. Still, the Lebanon question remains. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military would continue striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and would attack Beirut if Hezbollah launched further attacks on northern Israel.
