🎥 Train to a Fairytale: My 2 Days in Český Krumlov + Side Trip to České Budějovice I hopped on a train from Prague for what turned out to be one of the most scenic rides in the Czech Republic, heading south to the storybook town of Český Krumlov. Over two days, I wandered through its cobbled streets, explored the castle grounds, found the best local cafés, and soaked up views that look straight out of a fairytale. This little town might be small, but it’s full of charm, history, and atmosphere — and it completely stole the show. From St. Vitus Church to the grand Český Krumlov Castle, this UNESCO World Heritage Site feels like stepping back in time. What’s even more incredible is that Český Krumlov survived World War II untouched, keeping its medieval and Renaissance architecture beautifully preserved. During the Communist era, many buildings fell into disrepair — but after the Velvet Revolution in 1989, locals brought the town back to life, restoring every colourful detail you see today. Along the way, I stopped for what might be the trendiest coffee in town at Café In Vivo, enjoyed a local burger, and stayed in a cosy Bohemian-style guesthouse that felt like something out of a storybook. I also took a side trip to České Budějovice, home of the original Budweiser Budvar brewery, to climb the clock tower, taste Czech cake, and get a glimpse of authentic small-city life in southern Bohemia. If you’re planning a trip through the Czech Republic or backpacking across Central Europe, Český Krumlov deserves a spot on your list. It’s easy to reach by train or bus from Prague, full of great food, history, and views, and perfect for anyone chasing that fairytale European vibe without the big crowds.
