تفصیل

The South African National Space Agency Act 36 of 2008 established the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) — a national institution dedicated to advancing space science, technology, and innovation. Enacted to position South Africa as a leading player in space research on the African continent, the Act provides the legal framework for organizing and managing the country’s space activities while ensuring that they are conducted for peaceful and developmental purposes. SANSA’s work directly supports South Africa’s goals in science, technology, and industrial growth. The Act defines the core objects and functions of SANSA, which include promoting the peaceful use of outer space, coordinating national space activities, and supporting both governmental and private initiatives in space science. SANSA is also tasked with fostering research and innovation, strengthening collaboration with universities and research institutions, and developing human capital in science and engineering fields. By doing so, the Agency contributes to sustainable development and helps address national priorities such as environmental monitoring, disaster management, and communication systems. In terms of governance, the Act establishes a Board of the Agency responsible for strategic oversight and accountability. It outlines the procedures for the appointment, removal, and terms of office for board members and sets out the framework for the Agency’s internal management, including the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer and other staff. The Act also provides detailed financial and administrative provisions, ensuring transparency, sound governance, and alignment with the Minister’s authority to determine national space science and technology strategies. The South African National Space Agency Act 2008 marks a major milestone in South Africa’s scientific and technological development. By creating SANSA, the law enables the country to harness space for innovation, environmental stewardship, and economic growth — securing South Africa
