تفصیل

In this episode, Sarah sits down with Betty—a midwife and public health worker serving one of the most remote regions of South Sudan. Currently working in Boma alongside ForAfrika, Betty is helping rebuild healthcare access in a place where clinics are scarce, roads disappear during the rainy season, and insecurity threatens the most vulnerable. For three years, Betty has chosen to remain in Boma despite immense challenges. She trains midwives and birth attendants, helps operate a maternity clinic that has never lost a mother, and leads mobile clinics that provide vaccinations and maternal care to families deep in the mountains. When roads are impassable, Betty and her team pull on boots and walk—sometimes even carrying pregnant women to safety. In the dry season, the danger shifts. Tribal conflict and insecurity make travel even more risky. Nutrition challenges grow as war disrupts food systems, closes nutrition centers, and leaves mothers relying on limited rations to care for growing families. Her story is one of resilience, courage, and hope, and it’s why our team is excited about potentially expanding BirthAid and malnutrition support in South Sudan.
