Chasing Legal Fees To Building A Pan-African LegalTech Product: The Relentless Story Of Cliqlaw's Expansion Across 3 Continents Guest: Lilian Geraldo, Managing Partner of Liando Africa Legal & Co-Founder of Cliqlaw Lilian Geraldo spent years watching lawyers spend 6 hours in court and transit, then squeeze actual legal work into 2 hours between 3PM and 5PM. She watched clients dismiss invoices because a 15-page review "looked too simple." She watched law firms struggle to chase fees because Ghana's legal ethics make suing clients nearly impossible. Then she built CliqLaw — a law firm management software designed by lawyers who were tired of performing competence instead of demonstrating it. In this episode of The Wavve Pod, Lilian opens up about why African legal tech must be jurisdiction-specific, the cost of training 70-year-old senior partners to trust cloud-based systems, and the real story behind building a product that now operates in Ghana, Nigeria, London, and soon the European Union. This isn't a story about "disrupting" law firms. It's about lawyers taking control of their operational efficiency—and making money from clients in the process. In this episode: → Why lawyers spend 6 hours chasing paper, 2 hours doing actual legal work → The transparency problem: clients think GPT did your 15-page review → How CliqLaw creates audit trails that justify every billable hour → The customization challenge: 70 firms, 70 different interfaces, one dev team → Why Ghanaian lawyers are the most conservative adopters (Nigeria and the UK are thriving) → Digitizing 30-year-old paper archives at no additional cost to law firms → The billing nightmare: Ghana Bar Scale vs. client account vs. tax compliance → How clients pay for the software (and Lilian profits from it) → Training 70-year-old senior partners to trust AI — the generational divide → Non-legal staff access: why the cleaner and security guard have login credentials → Real-time transparency: international clients watching Ghanaian lawyers work live → The Europ
