On 16/04/2026 .suspended EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi appeared before the Madlanga Commission where commissioners played audio of a crime associate asking him to prepare an official police letter for Cat Matlala personally — and evidence showed Mkhwanazi replied in under two minutes asking about the format. The Commission also played audio of Van Wyk saying Cat Matlala sorted criminal record problems for card applicants, and established that Mkhwanazi discussed Matlala's criminal record with Van Wyk but cannot remember what was said. When asked directly who was lying — him or Van Wyk — Mkhwanazi said he did not want to comment, and said it twice. #madlangacommission #catmatlala #mkhwanazi
