Art and Politics of Sound with Alex Lane - Doppia Visione Podcast Ep. 70

تفصیل

Alex Lane is a Canadian sound artist and musician originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, now based in Montréal. He works primarily in documentary and experimental Cinema, and the films he has collaborated on have been presented at major international festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Visions du Réel, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, and Cinéma du Réel. His work has received international recognition and awards in the field of sound for documentary Cinema. His approach is strongly unified. Recording, sound design, and mixing are part of a single creative process that can move from the most subtle realism to more radical forms of dissonance, often blurring the boundaries between music and sound. In this episode we talk with him about working with sound in Cinema and about the relationship between art, sound, and politics in filmmaking. We also discuss Intercepted, the film for which he created the sound, which juxtaposes images of war-devastated Ukraine with phone calls from Russian soldiers intercepted by Ukrainian intelligence services as they speak with their families, revealing propaganda, violence, and, at times, doubt and fear from the front.
