Another Look at the Stilling of the Storm

تفصیل

Matt Harmon and Ben Gladd examine Mark 4:35–41 and show how the stilling of the storm reveals Jesus as the faithful prophet, the greater David, the true Joshua, and Yahweh in the flesh. Through Old Testament allusions and biblical-theological connections, they explain why this familiar story is central to understanding Jesus’s identity and the arrival of God’s kingdom. 00:00 – Teaser: Why the disciples are more afraid after the storm 00:28 – Welcome to Biblical Theology Briefing 01:21 – Why the stilling of the storm is odd and underappreciated 02:10 – How biblical theology brings familiar passages into sharper focus 03:33 – Reading the stilling of the storm 05:23 – “On that day”: connecting the storm to the kingdom parables 07:53 – The parable of the sower and the mystery of the kingdom 09:46 – Jesus’s miracles as acted-out parables 11:19 – Evening, darkness, the sea, and biblical symbolism 15:35 – Other boats, eyewitness detail, and Peter’s testimony behind Mark 17:52 – The “great windstorm” and Matthew’s language of shaking 20:01 – Jonah as the Old Testament backdrop 22:58 – Typology and Jesus as the anti-Jonah 25:47 – Jesus sleeping in perfect trust 28:46 – “Do you not care?” and the disciples’ lack of understanding 29:39 – Is the storm symbolic of a demonic attack? 34:44 – Jesus as Joshua entering unconquered Gentile territory 36:15 – Jesus does what only Yahweh can do 37:49 – Great storm, great calm, great fear 39:49 – “Who then is this?” and the answer in the next scene 42:03 – Key takeaways for following Jesus 44:03 – Recommended resources on Mark and biblical theology 📚 Resources Mentioned Commentary on Mark by R.
