Ismail Patel, chair of Friends of Al-Aqsa, warns that the United States and Israel are working to strip Jordan of its historic custodianship of Al-Aqsa Mosque and replace the Islamic Waqf with an Israeli controlled body. He says the plan would turn Al-Aqsa into a so-called “multi-faith centre”, with Israel appointing imams, controlling Friday sermons and repackaging the mosque as a tourist attraction. Patel argues this is not coexistence, but “conquest under the language of coexistence”. Patel says Israel has already restricted Muslim access to Al-Aqsa while organised raids by Jewish groups have reached unprecedented levels under Israeli police protection. He links this to Israel’s wider campaign against Palestinians, from Gaza to the West Bank, saying Al-Aqsa was “always next”. He calls on Muslims and Muslim governments to move beyond statements and condemnations, warning that “words without consequences are not solidarity, they are complicity”. For Patel, the defence of Al-Aqsa requires political mobilisation, economic boycott and diplomatic pressure before its Islamic identity is erased. Support stories that matter.
