Who Were Adam And Eve?

Description

Adam and Eve: parents of humanity, or characters in a dark Near Eastern myth about wisdom, mortality, and the limits of being human? Tristan Hughes and Dr Dylan Johnson strip away the Sunday school varnish to re-examine the story of Adam and Eve, starting with the question, Was there really an apple? They discuss the origins and multiple layers within the story and consider Eden as a royal garden, and the tale of lost immortality that echoes through Gilgamesh, Sumerian rivers, and the earliest biblical texts. 0:00 Introduction to the Garden of Eden 1:52 Was the Forbidden Fruit an Apple? 2:58 The Geographical Location of Eden 4:15 When was Genesis Written? 6:00 Life Before the Flood: The Sumerian Connection 7:18 The Two Creation Stories in the Bible 9:41 The Meaning of Adam: Man vs. Name 12:25 The Two Trees and the Four Rivers 15:38 The Snake, the Sin, and Consciousness 18:35 Divine Punishment and the Loss of Immortality 24:12 Kingship and Wisdom in Ancient Myths 31:18 Parallels with Gilgamesh and Enkidu 47:10 The Symbolism of the Royal Garden Presented by Tristan Hughes.
