We NEED to Talk about Bali Becoming The 'Dubai' of Southeast Asia

Description

Due to the war, the true reality of living in Dubai is being exposed. A city of the worst Western society has to offer, enjoying lavish wealth built on the labour of South and Southeast Asia migrants who are treated terribly. The government's authoritarian crackdown on people discussing the war, and the general hostility with Iran have sent influencers and crypto bros fleeing to Bali. Long established as a tourist hotspot for Westerners, beginning a century ago under Dutch occupation, this ramped up after the military dictatorship took over in 1965 and used Bali as propaganda to hide their huge crimes. Now Westerners are buying up land in the island and creating exclusives villas that could never be affordable to the locals. .00:00:00 - Bali is the new Dubai 00:04:50 - Can Western Tourism ever be ethical? 00:11:30 - Influencers argue about if Bali is better than Dubai 00:16:40 - Why Influencers LOVE Bali 00:22:00 - They don't care about Bali's culture 00:26:40 - Westerners are buying up Bali for themselves 00:35:20 - Bali was made a tourist hotspot to hide Indonesia's crimes 00:52:00 - West Papua 00:55:30 - Bali is the Blueprint BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/thekavernacle.bsky.social My Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/TheKavernacle My Instagram: https://instagram.com/thekavernacle/ My travel instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thekavernacle_extra/ Second Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtet3kEWqgKj6sSfMgf2n7A Main sources: https://lacuna.org.uk/economy/turning-gaza-into-holiday-resort-precedent-bali/ https://thediplomat.com/2025/11/bali-killing-fields-in-a-tropical-paradise/
