They Burned Their Way Back | The Conquest of Spain | Ramadan Series 2026

Description

In episode 4, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explores the moment Muslim forces crossed into Iberia and changed the course of history. The journey begins in North Africa under Musa ibn Nusayr, who consolidated Muslim rule in Ifriqiya and appointed Tariq ibn Ziyad to lead an expedition across the strait that would later be known as Jabal Tariq. What followed was the fall of King Roderic at the Battle of Guadalete and the rapid collapse of Visigothic authority. Cities such as Cordoba, Toledo, and Seville opened one after another. Churches were transformed into mosques, new governors were appointed, and within a generation Iberia became part of the Muslim world. Over the next two to three centuries, Islam spread gradually and organically, shaping what would become al-Andalus, one of the most remarkable civilizations in European history. This episode is not only about conquest. It is about leadership, unity between Arabs and Berbers, political instability, and the spiritual laws that govern the rise and fall of nations. “Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you.” Qur’an 49:13 “Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.” Qur’an 13:11 Watch and reflect on the lessons of history.
