The Money Behind the U.S. Economy | Office Hours

Description

In this Office Hours episode, Dr. Roy Casagranda and Jeremy break down the systems behind the U.S. economy and global power. Starting with a chaotic sequence of events involving a strait blockade and ceasefire, the conversation quickly expands into military spending, national debt, and why the tax system disproportionately favors wealth. They explore the origins of the petrodollar, how oil and currency shape global alliances, and how banks create money—leading into a detailed explanation of derivatives and the 2008 financial crisis. Along the way, they examine why these systems persist, who benefits from them, and why meaningful reform remains difficult. The discussion concludes with modern geopolitical tensions, questions about U.S. influence abroad, and a broader reflection on how individuals navigate complex and often irrational systems. ~~~ 🔉 Dr. Roy Casagranda Podcast 🔉 Podcast Spotify ▶ https://open.spotify.com/show/6aebF9BEErbbiTLEHEyV6z Apple Podcast ▶ https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dr-roy-casagranda-podcast/id1837193563 ~~~ Chapters 00:00 Cold Open & Office Hours Setup 01:52 Strait Blockade, Ceasefire & Confusion 08:18 Taxes, Wealth vs Income & Who Benefits 11:28 U.S. Military Power, Missiles & Global Influence 14:44 Declining U.S. Influence & Global Shifts 18:39 Petrodollar System & Currency Power 27:44 Panic Buying, Culture & Economic Behavior 36:08 How Money Is Created (Mortgages & Banking) 51:54 The 2008 Financial Crisis & Bailouts 01:01:57 Corporate Power & System Incentives 01:06:42 UAE, Sudan & Foreign Policy Debate 01:19:03 Media, Censorship & Platform Influence 01:22:21 Unlawful Orders, Ethics & Responsibility 01:31:35 Dubai, UAE Strategy & Global Role 01:41:42 Labor, Class & Economic Inequality 01:47:48 Space, Perspective & Final Reflections #Geopolitics #Economics #Petrodollar #GlobalEconomy #USDollar ~~~ © Dr. Roy Casagranda – All Rights Reserved.
