Description

In Episode 20 of the Direct Line Podcast, we are joined on a call with Jockey Andrew Fortune In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, 57-year-old jockey Andrew Fortune claimed victory in the 2026 Cape Town Met, making a triumphant statement on Saturday that will be remembered in South African horse racing history. Riding the Nic Jonsson-owned See It Again, Fortune outpaced his son Aldo Domeyer, who piloted Legal Counsel, in a gripping finish that showcased the intense competition of one of the country’s premier Weight-for-Age Grade 1 contests. The race, held over a testing 2,000 metres, culminated with a nail-biting finish that saw See It Again cross the line just ahead of Domeyer’s mount, sealing the win with a time a fraction above two minutes. This victory was not only personal for Fortune but also marked a pivotal moment, adding another layer to the family legacy in the sport — both father and son are now Met winners. Reflecting on the excitement leading up to the race, Fortune was candid about his confidence. “They’ve got no chance, they’re just filling the field,” he stated, confidently ignoring the competition and declaring, “all these billboards, they’re all for me.” Whether you’re a racing enthusiast or just love a good inside story, this episode offers a unique look into the dedication and passion that drive the sport forward. 🎙️ Saddle up and listen in! #DirectLinePodcast #HorseRacingSA #RacingStories #ForTheBettor
