In the mist-locked town of San Ildefonso, desperate farmer Jericho Abelardo unearths a dark anting-anting beneath a gnarled balete—an amulet that grants miraculous fortune but demands a human life in return. As Jericho’s daughter recovers and his wealth blooms, a cold, unrelenting voice begins to pressure him toward an unthinkable sacrifice. Dr. Althea San Luis, a visiting scholar, and Ramon, a devoted church elder, race to stop a family’s destruction by blending science, ritual, and faith. A cursed relic, a moral bargain, and a terrifying deadline collide in a story about how belief can become compulsion—and what it costs when humans trade their souls for salvation.
