S5 E8: The Silence of the Press

Description

Season 5, Episode 8, “The Silence of the Press”. Step into a dark chapter of Philippine history where silence became a weapon and truth was forced into hiding. On the night of February 24, 2006, under Proclamation No. 1017, newsrooms like the Daily Tribune became battlegrounds as press freedom faced brutal suppression. This episode unpacks the chilling atmosphere inside those offices — the eerie sounds, unseen presences, and the haunting legacy of voices silenced by fear and censorship. Through firsthand accounts, folklore, and historical context, we explore how journalists endured threats, raids, and enforced silence, and how stories refused to die despite attempts to erase them. Discover how the spirits of the silenced linger in newsrooms past and present, embodying a collective memory that demands justice and remembrance. Listener discretion is advised: this episode touches on real wounds and disturbing histories that continue to resonate today.
