Description

The World Health Organization is warning that the spread of the deadly Ebola virus in East Africa is 'outpacing' the body's efforts to counter the outbreak. Efforts to combat the disease, which has broken out in the Democratic Republic of Congo and already spread to neighbouring Uganda, are being further complicated by the ongoing conflict between government forces and rebel militia groups. Cuts in international aid, including President Trump's closure of USAID, are also hampering efforts. Large chunks of the population are also mistrusting of health authorities with some reportedly believing the deaths are due to 'mystical' forces. More than 200 people have already died in DRC and with no approved vaccine or other medical counter measures yet available, the race is on to contain the outbreak and prevent more lives being lost.
