My Mesmerizing Trip to Senegal; Why I love the food, creativity and hospitality

Description

A clip from Episode 3 of Black Beyond Borders where I have Thiéboudienne (pronouced che bu jen), Senegal's national dish, with new friends and have dinner with Senegalese native/American citizen Anta and she talks about her move back to Senegal and I end the week with Selly Raby Kane's dynamic fashion show. This video captures the heart of my experience during weeks three and four in Dakar, Senegal: genuine human connection and the profound meaning of home. It starts with an invitation I’ll never forget—a meal of Thiéboudienne , the Senegalese national dish, eaten communally from one pot. This experience of sharing food with local friends gave me a firsthand look at their incredible warmth and hospitality. But the real, hard truth came during a conversation with a friend who moved back to Senegal after 25 years in the U.S. We talked about Teranga, the deep spirit of Senegalese welcome, and her powerful reason for leaving America to raise her daughter in a place where she would learn the "greatness" of her heritage. This is more than a travel vlog; it’s a reflection on identity, belonging, and the search for a place where life can truly thrive.
