Larry Perino | Never Leave a Fallen Comrade: A Ranger Platoon Leader's Account of Task Force Ranger

Description

A Ranger platoon leader recounts the sudden shift from training to chaos after the “boom” — helicopters struck, smoke and gunfire, and a race through Mogadishu to extract teammates. The episode traces Colonel Larry Perino's (then Lieutenant) path from West Point and Ranger training to leading a platoon on the ground during Task Force Ranger in Somalia, describing fast‑rope assaults, ambushes, downed aircraft, and the desperate vehicle and foot exfil under heavy fire. He reflects on the losses, survivor’s guilt, the duty to remember fallen comrades, and how the experience shaped leadership and care for soldiers afterward. _______________ MENTORS4MIL SHOW LINKS: SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/@Mentors4mil Support the Show: https://www.patreon.com/Mentors4mil Listen on Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mentors-for-military-podcast/id1072421783 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3w4RiZBxBS8EDy6cuOlbUl Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mentors4mil Follow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Mentors4Mil/ Follow on X: https://www.twitter.com/mentors4mil Mentors4mil Website: https://www.mentorsformilitary.com #TaskForceRanger #blackhawkdown #LarryPerino #75thrangerregiment #mentors4mil #mentorsformilitary For sales or sponsorship contact info@mentorsformilitary.com 00:00 Intro 12:09 West Point: The Gloom Period 15:28 The Path to Ranger Regiment 20:23 The Call to Action 27:56 The Calm Before the Storm 33:28 The Formation of Task Force Ranger 38:24 The Buildup to Conflict 45:39 The Reality of War 56:47 Mission Planning 1:00:26 Assault on the Target 1:11:07 Chaos Unleashed 1:17:14 The Fight for Survival 1:36:16 Waiting for the Rescue 1:50:40 Reflections on Trauma 1:55:57 The Road to Recovery Visit our Amazon page to purchase some of the items we use in our studio, or books from our guests. https://www.amazon.com/shop/mentors4milpodcast As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
