Description

I still can't believe I had to pull security footage to find out my own sister-in-law walked out of my house with my cat in her arms. We have six rescues—Bear, Billy, Callie, Toby, and Tony—and they are literally our babies, not some stuffed animals you can just borrow. She’d been making these weird comments about how she wanted a Calico just like Callie and even joked about sneaking her out one day. I thought she was just being eccentric, but after our family gathering last weekend, Callie was nowhere to be found, and my stomach just dropped. I checked the cameras and sure enough, there she was loading Callie into her car like it was no big deal. When I called her, she was totally casual about it, saying she was just "borrowing" her for a few days to see what it was like to have a pet. I had to threaten to drive over and kick her door down before she finally brought her back an hour later. She handed her over without a single apology and acted like I was the one being dramatic for being upset that she literally kidnapped a member of my family. I've officially banned her from our home, and I’m not backing down no matter how much my in-laws tell me to let it go. My husband thinks I should calm down since Callie is safe, but she broke a fundamental level of trust that you just don't get back. You don't just "borrow" a living creature that depends on you, and if she thinks that's okay, she isn't someone I want near my house or my pets ever again. Do you think a "borrowed" pet is grounds for a permanent family ban, or is she right that I'm overreacting?
