Description

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi ordered security forces to cordon off the Green Zone as part of a sweeping anti-corruption campaign launched at dawn on 28 June. Dubbed “The Dawn Crackdown” for its early-morning launch, the operation targeted senior officials accused of embezzlement and misuse of public funds, with more than 47 people reportedly arrested, including politicians, MPs, and senior government figures. The Prime Minister’s legal adviser said the total value of public funds allegedly looted since 2003 amounts to around $2 trillion.
