Dr Yusuf Surunkuma Explains why and how Museveni's new cabinet was full of mistakes.

Description

Uganda's newly announced cabinet has generated controversy from the moment it was unveiled. From questions about constitutional eligibility and dual citizenship to appointments that have left many observers puzzled, the public conversation has largely focused on the mistakes. But what if the mistakes are not the most important story? In this episode of the NUP Podcast, political analyst and public intellectual Yusuf Serunkuma argues that the new cabinet reveals something much deeper about the current state of power in Uganda. He contends that beyond the legal and political controversies lies a government increasingly driven by fear, uncertainty, and the need to manage competing interests within the regime. Together, we unpack the hidden logic behind the appointments, what they tell us about President Museveni's political calculations, and why this cabinet may be more revealing than previous ones. We explore whether these appointments point to confidence or anxiety within government, and what they signal about the future of Uganda's politics. This is a fascinating conversation about power, succession, loyalty, statecraft, and the deeper forces shaping Uganda at a critical moment in its history.
