Defence spending "not only tanks and guns," NATO-allied bank to secure Canada: Expert

Description

As several Canadian cities await word on which will host the so-called NATO bank, we speak with an expert about why the Defence Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB) is also important to everyday Canadians.  "Canada was ready to become a leader or position itself as a leader in the world in that huge movement towards sovereignty, economy of defence, and all of these corollaries that came with it and that came with it in many ways," said Philippe Bourbeau, professor at the HEC Montreal. Bourbeau added that the DSRB would directly secure Canadians, "I think Canada has a huge chance here to tell Canadians that defence is no longer, or not only tanks and guns. It's way, way broader than this." He said that regardless of which city becomes home to the bank in Canada, "it benefits everyone to, you know, invest in that domain."  He said the strongest contenders to host the bank are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Ottawa.
