Climate change or just crazy weather? The Climate Question | BBC World Service

Description

It’s one of the most commonly debated questions in the climate world: Is this weather we’re experiencing natural, or is it linked to man-made climate change? Click here to subscribe to our channel 👉🏽 https://bbc.in/3VyyriM In this episode of The Climate Question, Hosts Graihagh Jackson and Jordan Dunbar are joined by BBC Lead Weather Presenter, Matt Taylor. Matt’s forecasts are seen not just in the UK but around the world. Matt chats to Graihagh and Jordan about the crucial difference between weather and climate, and the challenge of communicating this on air. They discuss why heavy snowfall will still be possible in a warmer world, as well as a likely increase in droughts and heatwaves. Matt also discusses whether climate change will make his forecasts more or less accurate. And he tells Graihagh and Jordan about an encounter with BBC wildlife legend, David Attenborough! 0:00 Intro & Meet Matt Taylor 1:48 Weather vs Climate 3:08 Global Warming vs Climate Change 3:57 Why weather patterns are changing 5:01 How climate change affects daily weather 7:24 Linking weather events to climate change 9:34 Public reactions to climate change reporting 10:35 Dealing with backlash 12:34 Comparing heatwaves to 1976 14:58 The psychology of climate change messaging 17:14 Is extreme weather harder to forecast? 20:50 The role of AI in weather forecasting 22:16 A lifelong passion for weather Watch more episodes from The Climate Question here 👉 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLz_B0PFGIn4dlFahw2svjb6-aW_BVOn4x ---------------- This is the official BBC World Service YouTube channel.
