Description

SIDE EVENT Beyond the horizon: Forecasting migration dynamics along the route In an uncertain environment, policymakers require better tools to anticipate migration trends and design proactive responses. While labour mobility can often be projected using demographic and economic data, predicting displacement driven by conflict, climate change, or political instability remains far more challenging. Over the past decade, new instruments have been developed to anticipate displacement, vulnerabilities, arrivals, and returns of migrants across origin, transit, and destination countries. This session assesses their practical application: What works, what falls short, and how predictive insights can support policymaking. Moderator Maegan Hendow, Senior Researcher, ICMPD Speakers Jean-Christophe Dumont, Head, International Migration Division, Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Amparo González Ferrer, Senior Research Fellow, Spanish National Research Council, Spain Jessica Bither, Senior Expert Migration, Global Issues, Robert Bosch Stiftung Alexander Kjærum, Global Advisor and Senior Analyst, Danish Refugee Council #ViennaMigrationConference 🔗 Find information on the Vienna Migration Conference (VMC) at: https://vienna-migration-conference.org/ 🔗 View the VMC2025 programme here: https://vienna-migration-conference.org/vmc2025-programme/ 🌐 Follow the ICMPD Policy & Research LinkedIn page for updates on the Vienna Migration Conference: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/icmpd-policy-and-research/ 📧 Subscribe to the ICMPD Policy newsflash for the latest policy insights from our policy team: https://policyupdates.icmpd.org/fl/bc833017-5268-4cf9-a241-f2d69fc60bd2/ ***************************** 🔗 Learn more about ICMPD's work at: https://www.icmpd.org/ 🌐Follow @icmpd on: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/international-centre-for-migration-policy-development-/ X: https://twitter.com/ICMPD Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ICMPD Blues
