Mar7ba bikom! In this advanced grammar lesson, we’ll master comparative adjectives in Darija so you can say “bigger than,” “smaller than,” “better than,” “more expensive than,” and more—clearly and fast. What you’ll learn The core pattern: [comparative adjective] + mn (من) = “-er than / more than” How many comparatives drop the long ي (ya): كبير → كبر (kbar), صغير → صغر (sghr) The common irregulars you must know: مزيان → حسن (7sn) “better”, حلو → حلا (7la) “sweeter”, غالي → غلا (ghla) “more expensive” Real examples: “الكلب كبر من المش” — The dog is bigger than the cat “الصويرة صغر من الدار البيضاء” — Essaouira is smaller than Casablanca “أتاي حسن من القهوة” — Tea is better than coffee Practice plan Repeat the examples out loud (Darija + transliteration). Make 5 of your own comparisons (people, cities, foods). Comment one sentence using mn (من) for feedback.
