A Warrior Finds His Way: From Desert Storm To DevGru, To Life Beyond The Teams • Todd Sharbutt 🔱🏴‍☠️

Description

On this episode of the Liberty Risk Podcast, the crew sit down with Todd Sharbutt - retired Navy SEAL Master Chief, DEVGRU veteran, BUD/S instructor, and one of the true OGs of Naval Special Warfare. Todd’s career spans the full evolution of the Teams. From punk rock clubs in Los Angeles and silk-screening shirts for bands like the Dead Kennedys… to Desert Storm… the early days of DEVGRU… 9/11… Afghanistan… Iraq… Hollywood… and ultimately veteran advocacy. And somehow, the stories are every bit as wild as you’d expect. Todd brings a rare firsthand look into old-school SEAL culture, Green Team in the 90s, BUD/S leadership, and life inside the command before and after the Global War on Terror. Along the way, there’s no shortage of side quests - from sneaking into Kuwait City post-Desert Storm to behind-the-scenes film industry chaos on projects like Iron Man and The Last Ship. This one is loaded with: SEAL Team 3, DEVGRU, and BUD/S leadership Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq, and early GWOT operations Old-school Naval Special Warfare culture and legendary Team stories Hollywood military advising, filmmaking, and industry absurdity Punk rock roots, outrageous stories, and decades of perspective But beneath all the humor, chaos, and incredible stories, this episode goes deeper. After decades of war, loss, and the invisible weight so many veterans carry, Todd opens up about ibogaine treatment, psychedelic therapy, PTSD, TBI, and why he’s become a passionate advocate for helping veterans find real healing outside the broken conventional system. Like every Liberty Risk episode, it’s hilarious, brutally honest, and completely unfiltered - but at its core, this is a powerful conversation about service, sacrifice, reinvention, and continuing the mission long after combat ends. From punk rock kid… to SEAL Team legend… to healing advocate. Todd’s story covers it all.
