7 Through the Magic Door by Arthur Conan Doyle | 18c who's best? Smollett Fielding or Richardson?

Description

I thought this was a very interesting chapter. ACD is very good in this discussion. Concise but fascinating. Wish I'd read this book as a much younger person: it's a great overview of Eng. Lit. And perhaps I should give The Vicar of Wakefield another go. The other fascinating excursion here regards the novelist George Meredith. He is certainly neglected today. The book to read of his (apparently): Richard Feverel. A quote for the day from George Meredith: 'All great thoughts come from the heart'.
