Discipline is not about cruelty or harshness. It is about the seriousness of sin, the purity of the church, and the hope of restoration. Paul is not speaking about repentant believers who are struggling and seeking help. He is addressing open, serious, unrepentant sin among someone who claims to be a brother. This study also reminds us that Christians are not called to separate from every sinner in the world. Paul makes it clear that believers are still called to live in the world while refusing to tolerate open rebellion against God inside the church.
