Why Are We Hiding the Horrors & Downplaying the Wins of Our History? - Peter Carey (Part 1)

Описание

With Indonesia pouring billions into a controversial project to rewrite its national history, historian Peter Carey sat down with WIUI to give his take. We talked about how he ended up dedicating decades to Indonesian history, his obsession with Prince Diponegoro, and why so much of our powerful past is unknown or ignored. We also talked about what’s at stake when a nation chooses amnesia over honesty. Peter Carey is a British historian known for his work on Indonesian history. He spent decades researching the 19th-century Java War and Diponegoro’s resistance against Dutch colonialism, making him one of the leading scholars on the subject. He taught in Oxford and now retired and lives in Indonesia. ------------------ What is up, Indonesia?
