This edition of the Citi Breakfast Show (#CitiCBS) explores the growing tension between defamation, contempt of court cases, and press freedom in Ghana. The discussion examines concerns raised by journalists and legal experts over the increasing use of lawsuits against media practitioners, with some arguing that such cases risk creating a chilling effect on public interest reporting. Others maintain that the law is necessary to protect reputation and uphold judicial integrity. The panel also reflects on recent court rulings and ongoing defamation cases involving journalists and media houses, raising broader questions about whether Ghana needs stronger safeguards such as anti-SLAPP provisions. So where do we draw the line between accountability and press freedom?
