Описание

Recent changes to Portuguese nationality legislation have raised important questions for foreign residents, investors and families planning their long-term future in Portugal. In this episode, Danielle Avidago from LVP Advogados discusses the main changes introduced by the new legal framework and explains how they may affect different categories of applicants, including Golden Visa holders, D Visa holders, spouses and civil union partners, descendants, children born in Portugal and other foreign residents seeking Portuguese nationality. The conversation focuses on the practical impact of the new rules, including the new residence periods applicable to nationality applications, the relevant starting point for legal residence, and the distinction between applications already submitted and applications to be filed under the updated framework. Particular attention is given to one of the most frequently asked questions currently being raised by applicants: when legal residence begins for nationality purposes and how administrative delays involving AIMA and residence permit issuance may affect individual cases. The episode also addresses the transitional provisions, the categories of applicants most likely to be affected, and the importance of understanding each case individually before defining a legal strategy. Listeners will gain insight into how the changes may affect Golden Visa holders, D Visa holders and other residents pursuing Portuguese nationality under the new framework.Beyond the legislative changes, the discussion highlights the role of preparation, organisation and strategic planning. Danielle also explains the new integration requirements, including Portuguese culture, history, national symbols, rights and duties, means of subsistence and declarations relating to adherence to the principles of the democratic rule of law. The discussion concludes with practical guidance on documentation, common mistakes to avoid and steps applicants can take to minimise delays and strengthen their nationality application.P
