Movember: The Simple Idea That Changed The Face Of Men's Health

Описание

In this episode of Better Than Yesterday, we revisit a powerful conversation with Adam Garone, co-founder of Movember, to explore how one of the world’s most successful grassroots movements began not with a strategy or manifesto, but with a simple dare among friends. What started in a Melbourne backyard as a playful challenge to bring back the moustache quickly evolved into a global campaign for men’s health. Over time, Movember has grown into a worldwide movement spanning more than 20 countries, engaging millions of participants and raising over a billion dollars for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health initiatives. This episode unpacks the surprising mechanics behind Movember’s success: why playfulness can be more powerful than seriousness in capturing attention, how trust and community participation fuel organic growth, and why the organisation’s biggest innovation may be treating participants not as audiences, but as co-creators of the movement. We also hear how Movember has helped reshape medical research itself—connecting previously isolated researchers across the globe and fostering collaboration that accelerates breakthroughs in men’s health. It's a conversation about rethinking how change happens, and challenging the idea that movements need perfection or authority to begin. Instead, curiosity, connection, and a bit of irreverence can actually drive real-world impact.
