Описание

Ingrid Bergman's life (1915-1982) was a testament to artistic passion and professional resilience. While she became a global icon through her celebrated film career, the stage was a profound part of her identity. From her earliest training at the Royal Dramatic Theatre School in Stockholm, she honed her craft before her meteoric transition to Hollywood. She quickly became a major star, earning her first Academy Award for her role in the psychological thriller Gaslight (1944) and cementing her legendary status with iconic performances in films like Casablanca (1942) and Notorious (1946). Her commitment to live performance came to a head during her time in Europe in the 1950s, following her controversial departure from Hollywood. It was during this period that she collaborated with her husband, the renowned Italian film director Roberto Rossellini, on a stage production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Staged at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 1953, the production saw Bergman take on the role of Ophelia. This was a deeply personal return to her theatrical roots, showcasing her vulnerability and powerful stage presence to a European audience. While Rossellini’s background in neorealism was a stark contrast to Shakespearean tragedy and met with mixed reviews, this performance was a critical moment in her journey as a performer. After her time in Europe, Bergman made a triumphant return to American cinema, winning her second Academy Award for her role in Anastasia (1956). She went on to earn a third Oscar for her supporting role in Murder on the Orient Express (1974), solidifying her place as one of the most awarded actresses in history. Her final, Emmy-winning performance in the miniseries A Woman Called Golda, brought her career full circle. Her life was a testament to artistic courage, from her earliest roles to her final performance, inspiring generations to follow their passions.
