Forever Chemicals: The 60-Year PFAS Cover-Up Hiding in Your Drinking Water

Описание

What if the water coming out of your kitchen faucet contains chemicals specifically engineered not to break down, and the protections designed to remove them are now being rolled back? In this Fatal Conveniences episode, Darin dives into PFAS, the so-called "forever chemicals" used for decades in nonstick cookware, waterproof clothing, food packaging, firefighting foam, and countless everyday products. Their incredibly strong carbon-fluorine bonds make them extraordinarily useful, but also allow them to persist in the environment and human body for years. Darin breaks down the regulatory battle surrounding America's first legally enforceable federal drinking-water standards for several PFAS chemicals. He walks through the original 2024 EPA rule, subsequent efforts to delay or rescind portions of those protections, the court battle surrounding those changes, and why he believes the story represents something much larger than bureaucratic policy. He then traces the history back decades, discussing internal industry documents, early toxicology findings, allegations that companies withheld troubling information, and a 2018 controversy involving a federal PFAS health assessment. For Darin, it's another example of a familiar pattern: dangerous information emerging slowly while the public continues to be exposed. But this episode isn't about becoming afraid of your faucet. It's about understanding the problem so you can take action. Darin's message is simple: don't wait for corporations, regulators, or politicians to protect your health. Understand your exposure, learn what the science says, and take practical steps to protect yourself and your family.
