The Barker-karpis Gang:: An American Crime Family

According to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, "Ma" Barker was the head of the infamous Barker-Karpis gang, which terrorized the Midwest between 1931 and 1936. But was she really? Or did Hoover create the myth of "Ma" Barker to explain away her death at the hands of his G-Men in a bloody shootout in Florida? "The Barker-Karpis Gang: An American Crime Family" traces the origins of the Barker family and the lives of the Barker boys, Herman, Lloyd, Arthur "Doc" and Fred Barker; and their bloody rampage across the pages of Prohibition Era history, to the final vicious gun battle between Hoover's G-Men and Fred Barker at a cottage near Ocklawaha, Florida on January 16, 1935. Also covered is the subsequent manhunt for Alvin Karpis, from Miami to Ohio to his capture in New Orleans in 1936. As Tony Stewart says, "This book is a MUST read!"Read more
