A mentor once told me that a key to success is to start with the end in mind. To go forward, you must first look backward. Stay the Course: Chronicling My Self-Development, Business, and Vocational Improvement [SECOND EDITION] is my collection of experiences and research which shaped my career. This book aggregates blogs and articles I’ve written. It also teaches elements of best practices and general know-how. As you read Stay the Course, you will see references to a prior job, a position or other experiences. I have exclusively focused my career on the HVACR and plumbing industry and many of my references include these experiences. I have had the opportunity to work on government affairs, integrated marketing, analysis (financial, customers, and vendors), and business improvement projects. You don’t need to be from the HVACR and plumbing industry to appreciate some of the idiosyncrasies of these learned business practices. I’d like to think many other industries operate in similar ways and this book can be of service to start-ups, nonprofits and for-profits. It is also a resource for those starting off in their careers or interested in learning more. Some of the writing teaches broader business lessons while others are tactical to specific business disciplines. If even one example of my business journey will help clarify your path, then I’ve met one of the goals. My hope is that you, the reader, learn or recall something through these short briefs.
