Starlight Between Us

Starlight Between UsA coming-of-age drama set against the hazy heat of 1980s Hollywood, where the lines between art and intimacy blur, and the roles we play leave lasting marks. When aspiring actor Ralph drives his rusted VW bus from Iowa to Los Angeles, he’s chasing a dream—one last shot at making it big in a controversial film remake that no one’s sure should even exist. Jill is eleven, fiercely intelligent and unsettlingly self-possessed, one of hundreds auditioning for the role of Violet. When the casting clicks, the chemistry on-screen is undeniable. Off-screen? It's complicated. As filming stretches into months of rehearsals, whispered scenes, and blurred boundaries, Ralph finds himself tangled not only in the strange intimacy of the role—but in the lives of Jill and her bohemian mother, Linda. What begins as a temporary arrangement becomes a makeshift family, and what starts as performance slowly reveals itself to be something deeper, more real, and more dangerous.Years later, after careers rise and fade, after silence and space, Jill and Ralph are drawn back together by a film they never finished writing—their own.Starlight Between Usis a poignant, atmospheric novel about memory, legacy, and the strange, beautiful ways we shape—and are shaped by—those we dare to love.Read more
