Paddles Up! Huki!: The Life and Love of Paddling an Outrigger Canoe Volume 1

Come Race Hawaiian Seas!Follow our intrepid author on his lifelong love affair with Outrigger Canoe paddling. From his learning to swim and first canoe ride at Kalapaki Beach, Kauaʻi to leading his club to Kailua-Kona and “The World’s Largest Long Distance Canoe Race”. A wealth of photos are included as well, from the old, grainy photo of that young boy at Kalapaki to the richly colored images of the breathtaking beauty along the Na Pali coast. Techniques and training, stroke rate and timing, all are discussed. There are also a few priceless quotes from the Coach, the “effortless effort” of perfectly timed strokes in a following sea, to giving the author his nickname “Huli Bob” due to a tendency to “huli”, or flip the canoe. So, grab a paddle, have a seat and join the voyage!Read more
