Among Kings follows Sheppard and Lapsley deep into the heart of the dangerous, Belgian-controlled Congo. Traveling by steamship 1,000 miles up the Congo River, these two green missionaries battle lurking pythons, disease, cannibal tribes . . . and Leopold’s sinister army. Bonded by hardship, a deep interracial friendship emerges. In London, Europe and America, under the leadership of journalist Edmund Morel of the Congo Reform Association, a courageous host of men and women rise up to protest Leopold's atrocities in the Congo.
