🇲🇦 Why EGYPTIANS invest in MOROCCO - Ali Mokhtar (Beltone)

Deskripsi

In this new episode of Tomorocco, I’m having a conversion with one of the rare international VCs actively betting on Morocco — Ali Mokhtar. Ali’s already backed CATHEDIS (last-mile), LNKO (D2C eyewear), and VelyVelo (delivery fleets). His take? “Morocco today feels like Egypt five or six years ago — the ecosystem is entering its takeoff phase, and foreign investors are starting to pay close attention.” Ali is the CEO and Managing Partner of Beltone Venture Capital, the VC arm of Beltone Holding — one of the largest and most established investment banks in the Middle East, listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange. He spent over a decade at Beltone, climbing the ranks from corporate finance to managing $1.4 billion in public equities across the region. Then, he made a bold pivot — joining the founding team of Talabeyah, a B2B e-commerce platform that was acquired just 18 months later by Egyptian unicorn MNT-Halan. In 2023, Ali returned to Beltone to launch its venture capital division. Since then, the venture capital practice led over 17 investments across Egypt, Saudi, the UAE and Morocco — deploying capital through a hybrid strategy that blends traditional VC bets with investments in tech-enabled SMEs. In this episode, we explore what excites him about Morocco, how he sees the region evolving, and where the next breakout opportunities could come from. In this episode, we cover: – What makes Moroccan founders so special? – Why Morocco is the sleeper tech market in Africa, with untapped potential – Why most Moroccan founders underestimate the size of their own market – Why they should double down in Morocco before expanding Ali delivers a masterclass — for founders, VCs, and anyone curious about where Morocco is heading.
