Deskripsi
Across the world, ancient civilizations built structures in places that seem almost impossible. A royal palace balanced on top of a 200-meter rock tower in the middle of the jungle. An entire city carved directly into the side of a mountain. And a colossal arch rising out of the desert that has defied gravity for more than a thousand years. In this video, we explore three mysterious structures that continue to puzzle historians and archaeologists today. First, deep in the jungles of Sri Lanka, the towering rock fortress of Sigiriya rises nearly two hundred meters above the forest floor. Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, the summit once held a royal palace surrounded by gardens, pools, and elaborate hydraulic systems that still function today. Then we travel to the cliffs of Bamiyan in Afghanistan, where an entire complex of caves, monasteries, and colossal statues was carved directly into a mountain along the ancient Silk Road. For centuries this cliff city was home to thousands of monks and travelers passing through one of the most important crossroads of the ancient world. Finally, we stand beneath the massive Taq-e Kisra, the legendary Arch of Ctesiphon in Iraq — the largest single-span brick arch ever built in the ancient world. Constructed by the Sasanian Empire more than 1,400 years ago, it still stands today as one of the most extraordinary architectural achievements of antiquity. These ancient structures reveal just how ambitious and advanced early civilizations could be — building monuments in places that still leave us wondering how it was possible.
