The Lucoes: The Forgotten Filipino Empire That Controlled Asia (Before Spain Erased Them)

Deskripsi

The Lucoes were the forgotten warrior-merchants of pre-colonial Philippines who built a maritime empire spanning from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Centuries before Spanish colonization, Filipino warriors and traders controlled entire districts of Malacca, guided Portuguese explorers to Japan, fought as elite mercenaries in Thailand and Burma, and established trade networks across Asia. This is the story of Regimo de Raja—the Filipino governor of Portuguese Malacca. The Lucoes navigators who showed Europe the route to Japan. The feared mercenaries who fought in wars from Sri Lanka to Southeast Asia. And the sophisticated trading network that rivaled anything in Europe. So why doesn't anyone know about them? Because Spain spent 300 years erasing this history to justify colonization. 🔥 TIMELINE: 00:00 - Opening: The Hidden Empire 01:15 - Who Were The Lucoes? 03:30 - The Malacca Connection 06:45 - Guiding Portugal to Japan 09:15 - Warriors for Hire Across Asia 12:00 - The Trading Empire 14:30 - Why This History Was Erased 17:00 - The Legacy & What It Means Today 19:30 - Closing 📚 SOURCES & FURTHER READING: - Portuguese chronicles by Fernão Mendes Pinto - "The Suma Oriental" by Tomé Pires - Thai Ayutthaya chronicles - "A History of the Malay Peninsula" by academic sources - Ming Dynasty Chinese records on Luzon traders 💡 KEY TOPICS COVERED: ✅ Regimo de Raja - Filipino Governor of Malacca ✅ Lucoes mercenaries in Thailand-Burma wars ✅ Filipino navigators guiding Portugal to Japan ✅ Pre-colonial Philippine maritime networks ✅ Why Spanish colonization erased this history ✅ Connection to modern Filipino diaspora (OFWs) 🌏 The Lucoes fought in: - Malaysia (Malacca) - Thailand (Ayutthaya Kingdom) - Burma/Myanmar (Toungoo Dynasty) - Sri Lanka (Portuguese expeditions) - Japan (early contact period) - China (Ming Dynasty trade) This isn't just Philippine history.
